Montara is the Coastside's most northern community before the tunnels. Most homes are located just east of Highway 1, but a few cling to the cliffs above the Pacific or up on the foothills of Montara Mountain.
Montara's landscape features the Point Montara Lighthouse located on a high rocky point overlooking the Pacific Ocean,
with adjacent Victorian buildings. Montara State Beach, a lengthy expanse of sandy beach, where one can watch the migration of whales. Hikers and mountain bikers can enjoy Montara Mountain and McNee Ranch, taking you more than 1,000 feet above sea level, while offering unsurpassed views all the way to the Farallone Islands. Located in a Tahoe-like setting, many
properties enjoy the best of both worlds with ocean and mountain views.
The back of Montara offers fields of strawflowers, where
deer and smaller wildlife are frequently seen. Horseback riders have miles of trails to explore, through eucalyptus groves, along the beaches and back into the mountains of the Coastal Range.
Many of those who buy homes in Montara commute to San Francisco, the Peninsula or Silicon Valley, though an increasing number
are telecommuting. Homes in Montara range from small, older cottages, to large
newer oceanview homes, oceanfront beach
houses and horse properties. Call Millie Golder at 650 726-1900 for more information!
